40 Time To Be A College WR

I want to make this very clear, I think the 40yd dash can be one of the most overrated aspects of a players game, I’m not even sure why they use it to determine a players speed. They should measure top speed when you are in full pads in my opinion, but I don’t make the rules. So if you want to play football at the next level and you run above a 4.6 forty, you should probably try to improve your time. Now, don’t panic if you run a 4.7/4.8 and are in high school. That’s not horrible, it’s just not great. You have plenty of time to improve it and can make a lot of gains this off season/the years to come. I think the forty is crap because if you have a bad start, stumble etc. you are labeled as slow when you might be faster in full pads than a guy who ran a 4.5 with a good start. Don’t put a ton of weight on the 40yd dash but don’t neglect speed training. College coaches want fast WRs because they will be going against fast DBs. You cannot neglect speed training.
