How D1 Coaches Recruit WRs

Below we will be discussing what college coaches look for in D1 WRs. I hope this can help!

Also, in 2024 we are coming out to 15 more cities for QB/WR camps! We will be coming to San Francisco CA, Miami FL, Las Vegas NV, Charlotte NC, Portland OR, Dallas TX, Nashville TN, Chicago IL, Buffalo NY, Atlanta GA, Houston TX, Philadelphia PA, Detroit MI, Boise ID & Los Angeles CA! So there are honestly 4 things that I know college coaches look for in WRs when scouting at the D1 level. If you don’t believe me, checkout this link below where I interview a Michigan St. WR coach ⬇️

1)- Speed off the ball. This is something you should heavily emphasize in the off season. If you’re not running track or working with a dedicated speed coach as a WR- you are not preparing yourself the best way possible.

2)- Route running. Offenses are quickly switching to the air raid/spread RPO systems. This spreads a lot of WRs out and Route running is more important than ever. You get so many 1on1 opportunities and your ability to separate is super beneficial.

3)- Football IQ. Do you know how to run routes? When to use certain moves? Etc. These are things WR coaches love to have in their WRs. This can make you an asset to the team as a whole.

4)- YAC. Yards after contact and yards after the catch are also important. So what can you do with the ball in your hands? If you have plays that showcase this- they should be shown early on in your highlight tape.
