1)- Earn your teammates respect by out working the upper class men. A lot of guys think they are the “man” because they made varsity. Players & coaches always have a negative attitude at first towards the younger guys. Put your head down & work everyday to earn that respect. You will have an easier transition.
2)- Play special teams. This is how you can increase a coaches trust in you. Especially if you’re not a starter right away. If you can execute your job in special teams well, coaches will trust you with a bigger role.
3)- Get mental reps if you’re not starting. If the starters are in you should be near your position coach and watching the guy ahead of you so you can learn from his mistakes and not make the same ones when the time comes for an opportunity. Coaches will notice this and you’ll have a greater opportunity to get some play time if you’re strong in the areas where your competition is weak.
