Honestly, the title of this post is a little bit click bait. I am a firm believer that 7th & 8th graders SHOULDN’T be maxing out at all. Listen, I get it if you have and you have been lifting for a long time, that’s fine.
I just think the risk outweighs the reward at your age. It’s not because “lifting heavy will stunt your growth”. That’s honestly a myth and there is no scientific evidence behind that. Reason why I say you shouldn’t be worried about maxing out is you’ll have plenty of time to do that in high school and building good habits aka good form on your lifts is way more important. 1)- If you have good lifting form, you will get bigger and get more out of exercises. 2)- Your max lifts will actually be higher long term with good form.
So don’t concern yourself with lifting insanely heavy when you’re 12-14yrs old. Focus on developing the best possible habits. Be consistent in the gym. Focus on building size and strength with proper technique. You’ll be a stronger player because of it & impress your high school coaches more because of it.
