There is no set answer to this question because all athletes are different and a lot of athletes train different in the weight room. But there is one constant thing that applies to this for everyone...
That is, your body needs rest. If it doesn’t rest your muscles will not have time to recover and they will not grow or get stronger. A lot of guys want to have this crazy work ethic and work super hard but don’t work smart at the same time. You have to do both. It’s not really about how many days or hours you put in, it’s about what you do while you are there. A guy could go to the gym for 3 hours 7 days a week and do maybe 10 sets and just talk the rest of the time while a guy who goes 5 days a week for 45 minutes but does all of his work and moves faster will get more out of it. Personally I don’t like being at the gym for more than 1.5 hours but a lot of guys are different. You just need to know that all of your bodies are different but they all need rest. Personally I would reccomend 1-2 days of rest every week. Now that is not the only answer by any means that is just what I reccomend. If you have another way that works for you that’s fine but 1 day is a definite must. But your rest days should not be sitting on the couch watching TV and eating chips all day. They should be active rest days. So do some recovery work and a lot of stretching. You need to hydrate and eat a high protein diet. If you are training as hard as you should be, you are going to need a recovery day. But if you half ass it and your body isn’t tired, you won’t need anything. Recovery is super important and taking a rest day every week is vital to your body getting stronger, more powerful, and ultimately developing muscle.
