Below we will be discussing how you can get offers while living in a small town. I hope this can help!
Also, in 2024 we are coming out to 15 more cities for QB/WR camps! We will be coming to San Francisco CA, Miami FL, Las Vegas NV, Charlotte NC, Portland OR, Dallas TX, Nashville TN, Chicago IL, Buffalo NY, Atlanta GA, Houston TX, Philadelphia PA, Detroit MI, Boise ID & Los Angeles CA! So I am going to use the example of living in a small town in the state of Illinois but this can obviously apply to any state.
So let’s say you’re in the middle of nowhere and play at a high school in Illinois. Getting a scholarship to play football somewhere probably seems far fetched at times but it is 100% possible. You just have to do some leg work.
So first things first, you need a dominant highlight tape. If you don’t have that, this process is not going to work. You need film that showcases that you are one of the best players on the field at all times. Reason I say that it has to be “dominant” is that usually small town schools don’t play as high level of competition as bigger cities so it needs to be dominant to catch a coaches eye. Now, when you have that highlight tape- you need to send it out to coaches using Twitter AKA “X”. Now everyone says that but it’s super vague advice. You want to reach out to the recruiting coordinator for your region- now I know what some of you are thinking. “Coach nobody comes to our high school and scouts” “How do I do that then?”. So this is where the bigger cities in your state come into play. So since for this example you are living in Illinois- the biggest city there by far is Chicago. So let’s say you play WR. Figure out who the top WR recruits are in Chicago/areas close to it. And then I would look at their X profile and try to find out who is recruiting them. Usually when they post an offer they will tag the coaches they communicate with. That’s who you want to reach out to. If you have film that is great- it can catch a coaches eye and he might be willing to make the trip to your school. Even if it’s a few hours away. College coaches are always looking for undervalued prospects. So that’s where I would start. You can even reach out to the top level recruits and ask them who has been recruiting them (I recommend guys not at your position). Colleges will send one coach, regardless of their position specialty, to recruit an entire area. They are called “recruiting coordinators”. That’s who you want to get your film in front of.
