So there are really 5 steps you need to follow in order to get your first offer if you are an underclassman.
1)- Put all of your resources into getting varsity film. The two things you have are either money, time or both. I feel you should make a bigger investment of money/time into training for your position so you can make varsity film. Whether that’s joining a gym, hiring a speed coach, training your speed off of YouTube videos, hiring a private skill trainer etc. Don’t waste money and time on some recruiting service if you don’t have varsity film yet. Varsity film is what you need to get a LEGITIMATE Offer.
2)- Make an X account. X is where college coaches do a lot of recruiting. Set up your profile and make it look professional. Name, graduating class, position, school you attend and some marketable attribute about yourself like height & weight or “first time all league” should be in your X bio. Use the platform to post content of you training and game film if you have it. If you don’t have varsity film you should use the platform to network. Follow college coaches & DM them. If you don’t have film ask them about college camps they have in the off season that you can attend. You can find college coaches by going to the schools football X account. For example “USC Football”- type that into X, then go to the account and go to who that account is following (not their followers) and there will be a list of coaches on there.
3)- Attend college camps. Goal is to network. Meet a ton of coaches & perform well. Goal is to get their social media & follow up with them after the camp asking them to stay in touch. So when you get varsity film next season you have contacts to send it to.
4)- Ball out. I can give you all the hacks but if you don’t perform, it doesn’t matter. You need a solid varsity year as either a 10th, 11th or 12th grader. Even a freshman if you are going to start as a freshman.
5)- Send the college coaches you have built connections & relationships with on X & at camps your 1st game of the year highlight, mid season highlights then full season highlight tape. This is so they can see what you can do after already seeing some of your training clips or you live/in person at a camp.
Then this is when recruiting can pick up for you. It’s a tedious process but this is the best way to go about it if you’re reading this as an unknown athlete from a recruiting perspective.
