Below we will be discussing how you can maintain your speed during the season. I hope this helps.
Also if you would like 75+ on field drills & on field workouts you can do to get faster, checkout the link below! We include the exact sets & reps to do & we put the drills into workout schedules so it is easy to follow ⬇️⬇️
1)- Stretch. During the season you are going to feel tired, beat up & sore. I suggest stretching every night before you go to sleep and right after practice. This helps your muscles stay fresh and you can maintain mobility in your lower body which can help with speed. Tight hips, tight groins & tight hamstrings can lead to injury/ a loss in athleticism.
2)- Work on your running form. Running form can sometimes suffer during the season because you are wearing pads etc. Anytime that you have on the weekends can be dedicated to running form. If you see a speed coach I would try to workout with them at least once during the weekend for a modified workout. You don’t need a speed coach either- that’s just an example. If you can work on your running form by yourself that’s just as good.
3)- Don’t neglect explosive movements in the gym. During the season, everyone knows that you’re not lifting as intense as you were in the spring/summer. However, you will/should lift at least 2-3 times during the week. Don’t neglect explosive movements like power cleans, box jumps, snatch etc. Those all help you increase your fast twitch muscle fibers which is a direct translation to speed.
