So conditioning is a crucial part of summer football, especially when August rolls around. So there are a 5 tips I want you to think about that can help you with your conditioning.
1)- Make sure to compete.
Coaches watch everything and evaluate everything, during conditioning if you are winning every sprint that is a great way to stand out especially if you are one of the younger guys.
2)- Make sure to hydrate.
This is before practice, specially the night before. I recommend some type of salt water, electrolytes or just generally a gallon of water. This is so you don’t cramp up or gas out.
3)- Box breathing.
This can help you get your wind back during conditioning. What box breathing is you inhale for 2 seconds, hold your breath for 2 seconds then exhale for 2 seconds. If you perform this- it will help you control your breathing and calm yourself down.
4)- 1 inhale, 2 exhales.
This is another technique to help you get your wind back. You inhale through your nose once, then exhale through your mouth twice.
5)- Don’t put your hands on your head.
There is a lot of research out there that if you bend yourself down and put your hands on your knees, that is actually an optimal position to be in. I recommend looking it up, there is a ton of info on it.
