The worst ones:

Any camp that doesn’t have college coaches present. It will be the biggest waste of time and money to go to an exposure camp where there aren’t college coaches present. Yes there might be a guy there from 247 sports or from Rivals, but 1)- they are being paid to be there 2)- it is physically impossible to scout 100+ athletes in a 3 hour time period. They already know who they are going to be scouting before they even arrive at the camp. So I don’t recommend going to these. Yes it’s great to get your 40 timed and get your combine results, but at the end of the day that “recruiter” won’t be able to do anything for you. He already know who he will be watching upon arrival to the camp. Also, if you don’t have varsity film yet- this might be the most pointless thing in the world to attend. College coaches could get the highest recommendation from a recruiter about you, but if you don’t have varsity film… he’s not going to look at you at that time. He might one day, but your main focus should be developing in order to get varsity film.

The best ones: camps where college coaches are actually present. So a question we get asked a lot about is should I attend the “Prep Redzone camps”. And I actually think those aren’t too bad. I’m usually anti exposure camps. If you read these articles consistently, you know I hate on a lot of camps. I just don’t like when organizations lie. Prep red zone doesn’t seem like the worst idea.  So essentially you pay $110 for their camp. It’s 3-4 hours long. At that pricing point, you can expect a TON of kids there. But they actually get college coaches to attend and scout (in some cases). So they actually have a feature on their website where you can look up what coaches are attending each camp they have. That sounds great. Now you’re probably wondering, how are 10-12 college coaches going to be able to scout 100+ players in a 3 hour time setting. They probably won’t be able to. So it’s tough to stand out, not impossible but it’s tough. So at that type of camp you should try to perform the absolute best & go to meet people. If there are multiple coaches there, those are coaches you can follow on X, Message them after the camp and build a line of communication. Especially if you don’t have varsity film, that should be your primary focus.

Now here is where it gets dicey with prep red zone, they claim that they will submit your combine scores to the colleges that are on their platform (hoping that they are being honest about the amount of coaches they have subscribed to their site). But I’m going to tell you right now, if they don’t see you perform with their own eyes… that email is going right into the trash. Colleges do their own recruiting. Have their own camps. They have to actually be there for you to get any value. I also saw on their website that some camps they offer in certain states don’t have any info for the college coaches attending. Which probably means none of them are going.  I recommend you avoid those at all costs. Sending scores to colleges will not do anything for you. Also, you have to think that all of the schools who are on their platform probably use it to “invite” players to camps. They pay $100 per year for access to athletes & their contact info. So you get a spam email stating that you have been “invited” to spend $200 at this college camp. To some people you might be like “oh wow this site really works” but then you realize everyone and their mother got the same camp invite. The $100 fee that these colleges pay is like an advertising expense to promote their camps.

So I think 99% of exposure camps you should avoid. Go to the camps where college coaches are at. Go with the mindset of building relationships and growing your X coach following.
