A lot of QBs have a problem throwing a spiral and a problem with control on the ball because their elbow likes to dip. Today we are going to be talking about some of the reasons your elbow drops. The most common reason I see is a lack of posture. A lot of QBs have a hunched over stance or their shoulders are slouched. This doesn’t allow their elbow to even rotate up because your body won’t let it. Your elbow is almost glued to your rib cage when this happens. If you pull your shoulders back and try to be vertical from your waist up that is going to help. 2nd, QBs might have a weak rotator cuff or they just don’t have the correct muscle memory of the throw. They take the ball back fine but In their rotational phase, they drop their elbow. This can be achieved by repping the perfect motion over and over again. You don’t even need a ball, you just need to strengthen the muscles in that area in your shoulder/rotator cuff so it builds a habit of brining your elbow up by your ear. Get in front of a mirror and watch yourself do the motion until it’s a habit. It’s boring, it’s not fun but if you don’t like boring stuff you’re never gonna play QB. In the back stroke, get to the opposite equal position or opposite L and when you start to drive your hip your shoulder rotates and your elbow is above your shoulder
So what should the motion actually look like?
