The first thing you can do at home to improve your route running and just overall athleticism is stretch! So many WRs neglect stretching and that is something that they need to do. You should stretch 30 minutes every night at least before you go to bed and then maybe 15 minutes in the morning when you wake up. Stretching will allow you to drop your hips more effectively into routes, make tougher breaks and just help you increase your stride length. You must be flexible in order to be a great route runner.

The second thing you can do at home to improve your route running is practice realistic drills. Like I mentioned before that’s what is contained in our 4 week training schedule. Do drills that emphasize hip drop, selling vertical, being sudden and a having a high football IQ when it comes to releases. Drills like this can be accomplished within 10-50yds and if you don’t have 50yds go to a local park and perform the drills by yourself. You need to get creative if you are going to do these exercises at home.
Last but not least, to be a good route runner you need to WATCH FILM. On top of school work, workouts, practice, stretching and more you need to watch film. Instead of watching Netflix or TV for an hour watch some film. Whether you are watching your own film or my videos I post you need to study the game. All great route runners are students of the game and that is what makes things slow down for you on the field.
