3 Things WRs Can Do To Get Started With Recruiting

First things first, young WRs you need to focus on development. If you do not have varsity film, that is 100% fine but you will not get any real recruiting attention without it. You need varsity tape in order to play at the next level. All these kids with “offers” who don’t have varsity film, don’t have real offers. So do not worry about them. Stay in your lane and focus on making varsity first and being the best version of a WR you can be. Train the correct movements and do the correct things in the gym to build your size, speed and technique. Train for the game not to look cool on social media. The second thing young WRs can do for recruiting is get out to some camps. If you do not have film but still want to get a leg up on the competition for recruiting purposes, build relationships with college coaches. Go to their camps and then follow up with them on Twitter or via email to reach out afterwards. If they remember you, they are more likely to take a look at your film when you send it to them. Not every coach will remember you but a few will. That’s why it is good to go to college camps at all levels of competition. D1,D2,D3 and NAIA.

Now the last thing young WRs can do is send out their highlights to coaches to get started with the process. So let’s say you have done the two things I mentioned above and you want to take it to the next level. Make your highlight tape for the season and make a list of 10 schools from each division you want to contact. Start there. If you don’t get any bites, message 10 more and then another etc. Make sure you send your film to the receiver coach and the recruiting coordinator for your area, that is who will need it the most. Don’t contact the head coach or the offensive coordinator. They will not respond. If you can do these three things mentioned above, you will set yourself up into a better situation to be recruited.
