3 WAYS TO BEAT PRE GAME NERVES

Below we will be discussing three ways that athletes can beat nerves/anxiety before practice or a game. I hope this can help!

Also if you would like 75+ on field drills & on field workouts you can do to get faster, checkout the link below! We include the exact sets & reps to do & we put the drills into workout schedules so it is easy to follow ⬇️⬇️

1)- Realize you can’t do it all yourself, just focus on your job. Football is the ultimate team sport- for a play to be successful all 11 guys on the field need to do their job. Even if you are a kicker- you still need a good snap and a good hold to make the field goal. Often times anxiety comes from worrying about things out of your control. So you shouldn’t worry about those things, worry about your job. That’s the only thing that should be on your mind. This is something I wish I would have known earlier in my playing career as a QB. I was always worried about everyone when at the end of the day I should’ve just been worried about my job and making sure I was perfect. When you focus just on your responsibilities, I promise you, the game will start to slow down and you can play relaxed.

2)- Don’t be result driven & take things one rep at a time. People are usually nervous because they are afraid to fail… failure is inevitable. It is going to happen whether you like it or not. We obviously never want it to happen- and strive to make sure it doesn’t happen… but it will happen. So don’t be afraid of it, just move onto the next play. Guys will be scared to make a mistake because when they do their mind starts racing and they can’t let the play go. Then their performance decreases severely. That’s letting the nerves win. So don’t be result driven- don’t show emotion towards the result, even if it’s good. If you make the greatest play of your life… treat it like you made the worst. Move onto the next and what your job is on the next play. This keeps you focused and mentally sound.

3)- Do the work. Confidence comes from work ethic. Let’s say you told me that I was going to play in a college or professional game tomorrow… I’d be pretty nervous because I haven’t been training to compete. Sure I coach QBs & WRs and I constantly watch film… but that’s not practicing. So if you aren’t preparing properly or slacking with your training…. A lot of anxiety comes from that as well. You want to be so prepared physically & mentally that you just want to get the game over with. And that ties into tip #1 and #2. If you prepare for your specific job- you will know it better than anybody else and you can avoid the nerves.
