For speed, there are a couple of areas that you need to emphasize in the gym that will help you get faster on the field. Explosiveness, all out effort reps, & higher rest time.

Speed comes from activating your fast twitch muscle fibers. Fast twitch muscle fibers come from doing explosive & fast twitch movements. So anything in the gym that is built around exerting max energy and force will help with speed. Now if you don’t give yourself enough time to recover in between sets, you won’t be exerting max force… which won’t get you as much out of the workouts. I say this just so you know how to structure these exercises that we are about to give you. Stay in the 5-8 rep range and make sure all 5-8 reps are explosive and exerting your maximum energy levels.

#1)- Plyometrics (box jumps, single leg box jumps, broad jumps, etc)

#2)- Power Cleans & Hang Cleans

#3)- Jump Squats
