So this is something I see happening more often in the youth football and recruiting world. 7th graders & 8th graders claiming they have received an “offer”. I am not writing this to discourage those who have posted that, I write this to encourage those who see this crap on social media to stay in their lane and not worry about this type of stuff.
1)- You can’t receive a legitimate scholarship offer, where you can commit to the college, until the summer before your junior year. That’s an NCAA rule. Not a lot of people like to believe that one, but it’s true.
2)- It is all hype to get followers and “exposure”
Most of the time what happens is the athletes parents, coach, 7on7 coach or trainer knows someone on a college staff. They will ask that college coach to do them a favor & give their son a verbal “offer”. Which means nothing. No contract. Neither side is obligated to anything. The hopes is that with this fake offer the athlete posts it, gets a lot of attention which can lead to more followers and notoriety. It’s all about HYPE. To people, they think the more followers you have the more valuable you are with an NIL deal. False. The better football player you are, gets you more money in NIL. Because in college football the big payments are made by wealthy donors to the program. Not companies who sponsor you because you get a lot of attention. There is like maybe 10 college athletes who make a lot of money of endorsements.
So the idea of it all is false. So again the reason why I write this is to let you know that you shouldn’t believe everything you see. Stay in your lane. Don’t feel like you’re behind. Keep grinding and focus on making varsity as soon as possible. Getting actual varsity film, getting it in front of coaches & going to camps is how you get LEGITIMATE offers.
