1)- Focus on you, not the competition. A lot of times when you are in a position battle with someone, you are constantly looking over your shoulder trying to see what they are doing- and honestly, that distracts you from what you need to do in order to win the spot. You need to keep the main thing, the main thing. And the main thing should be putting the team in the best possible position to win by doing your job. You shouldn’t be studying the other players you’re competing with to see what their weaknesses are. You should be studying your playbook & assignments to know what YOU need to do in order to be the best possible player.

2)- Don’t make the same mistake twice. Your head coach or position coach is the decision maker. They decide ultimately who plays and who doesn’t. And take it from me, the quickest way to piss off a coach is to have him tell you the same thing over and over again. Mistakes are inevitable but learning from them and making sure they never happen again usually separate great players from good players. Constantly elevate and make sure a coach never tells you the same thing twice. Their job is to coach & your job is to improve.

3)- Consistent effort. A lot of people don’t understand that it is more than just working hard. Every single person on that field works hard & every single person on that field would consider themselves a “hard worker”. Being consistent with your hard work is what will separate you. And by consistent I mean everyday multiple times per day. I can’t tell you how many coaches/trainers reach out to me about growing their social media presence and training more clients because they see the success that we are very blessed to have with our brand. And I tell them exactly what I have done in order to grow my following and business. And I see these coaches start doing what I tell them… and then after a few weeks they quit. They start posting less, the quality of videos go down etc. And that’s the same damn thing with football players. A lot of guys want to work really hard…. For a week. Then they go back to being lazy and building bad habits. You need to be consistent. Everyday show up, or else you won’t go to the levels of this game that you want.
