If you attend a small high school in maybe a city/state that doesn’t get a lot of recognition, or just your school doesn’t get a lot of exposure- there are 5 steps I want you to follow to get some college coach attention.
1)- Make an X account, formerly known as Twitter.
Make an account, post your highlights and make those your “pinned” tweet so it’s the first thing coaches can see. Make your bio professional. Include your graduating class, position, state and high school you attend. And potentially a marketable attribute about yourself. Like if you’re 6’3 200lbs- put that in your bio.
2)- Follow & DM coaches. Some coaches require you to be verified to DM them. I recommend getting that. Then some coaches need to be following you in order to DM them. This is why you must follow them. When you DM them- don’t send your film, ask them if they have any college camps coming up in the off season. That’s a good conversation starter. Because it’s an easy answer for them. A lot of athletes send a long paragraph explaining their life story. Don’t do that.
3)- Then send them your film in a follow up message. If they are interested they will most likely have already viewed it because it should be the pinned tweet on your profile.
4)- Attend college camps. These can be somewhat local- you don’t have to break the bank traveling. I recommend going to camps where you have some type of a relationship with the coach. This relationship can be obviously developed through X DMs.
5)- Follow up with them during your next season. Send them your mid season highlights (after 5 games). Then send them your full season highlights (after the season ends). This can cause them to be more interested and potentially land you an offer or at least some more attention.
