Your hands on a press release are very important and there are 2 things that you need to focus on when working against press. At the end of the day you need to have a plan. That’s always #1. If you have a plan for your hands and you have studied the DB you are going against you can easily work the proper hand technique to get him off you. A lot of guys go to the line and want to react off of the DB. You will get knocked off your route and the timing will be disrupted. You need to walk in with a plan. The #2 thing you need to focus on is where you should attack the DB. Don’t fight his hands. I know they call it hand fighting but you should be attacking his forearms, elbows and worst case scenario back of his shoulder. That’s going to get you the most separation because those are his points of control. His hands will bounce off then come right back. Always have a plan and attack the elbows, forearms, or shoulders.
