SAND WORK

I think all QBs should do sand work. It is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your base. Now I know a lot of you don’t have access to sand 24/7 but if there is sand at a park or some place where you can use it other than the beach, I highly suggest it. We are going to talk about why.

Sand is so unpredictable, much like the QB position. There is conflict all around you, you don’t have your feet balanced so you have to put a huge stress on your base to make an accurate throw. Sand obviously makes your feet faster but that goes for any position. QBs specifically should do sand work for a stronger more balanced base. When you workout in the sand you don’t need to do a lot of throwing. It’s mainly for your lower half. Your legs will burn and you will feel off balance 90% of the time. That’s a good thing. When you get to grass, think of how much easier it will be. You will be lighter on your feet and without a conflicted unbalanced surface you should be able to make any throw on the field. Another thing I would suggest, is doing drops in the shallow water (if you live near a beach). The ocean is another unpredictable environment. The waves come and go but if you can train your base to be strong your base will be unbeatable in the pocket from doing water work. You can also do some footwork in the ocean like a wave drill or any kind of pocket movement.

The beach/ sand is a great tool all QBs should utilize if they have access.
