We will be coming to San Francisco CA, Miami FL, Las Vegas NV, Charlotte NC, Portland OR, Dallas TX, Nashville TN, Chicago IL, Buffalo NY, Atlanta GA, Houston TX, Philadelphia PA, Detroit MI, Boise ID & Los Angeles CA! I’m usually not the biggest advocate of transferring schools. I think people do it way too often today for the wrong reasons. In college it’s a little different because of the financial opportunities given now & the competition. But in high school I think people jump ship way too often. So today we are going to talk about the right time to transfer and then the wrong time.

First things first, you need to be honest with yourself. Are you really getting treated unfairly? Or are you not doing the things you need to be doing? People love excuses like “oh well I can’t make it to every practice because I have doctors appointments” “I play other sports” “I have a family trip”. And while I understand what you are saying- coaches are going to hold that stuff against you. You have to be there. Your greatest attribute should be being available. Schedule your appointments and obligations after football practice. Not during. You cannot miss. It may not be this way, but a high school coach is going to see that as disrespectful behavior to your teammates. How is he supposed to build a culture without everyone being there. Especially if you play a leadership position like QB. It’s going to seem like  you don’t care about your teammates and your number one priority isn’t football if you are constantly missing practices and meetings. So you have to show up consistently and put in effort consistently. Working hard is not enough. You have to dominate in practice. If you are doing all of these things and you still feel you aren’t getting a fair shake… then it might be time to transfer. But you have to be honest with yourself. Also, this is a personal opinion but I don’t think WRs should transfer unless you’re going to a higher competition school or a school that passes the ball more. There are 4 WR spots on the field. If you can’t start at one of them, I think it might be a skill set issue. I think you need to work in the off season a little bit harder to improve your speed, explosiveness, route running, hands etc. You should be able to play slot WR or outside WR. QBs & RBs where there can only be 1- those are usually more common to transfer schools. I get there are certain circumstances to where you need to transfer but those are exceptions not the rule. At the end of the day, do what you want to do… but please be honest with yourself. You’d be surprised how much better you will get if you stick around and face the competition in front of you. You can’t run from competition- you gotta face it. That’s how you make jumps in your game you never thought you could make.
