Below we will be giving you the average height for varsity WRs (slot & outside) and what to work on if you’re small. I hope this is able to help!

Height isn’t everything as a WR but to play on varsity I would say this is the height “requirements” they look for.

Slot- 5’9-5’10

Outside 6’1+

Now if you aren’t at these averages or aren’t projected to be, you can obviously still play WR. I would just focus heavily on these aspects of your game. These are things that all short WRs need.

1)- Speed. Being short & slow is a tough sell at the WR position

2)- Great hands & catch through contact. Need to showcase that your size isn’t a factor going over the middle.

3)- Great route running. Being undersized means you need to do all of the little things right. The details. And route running is all about details.

4)- Football IQ- you must know your plays and need to know where to sit against defensive coverages.
