Today we will be discussing what you can expect at a college camp! I hope this can help.
Also, if you are a QB or WR and would like me to make you a custom 2 month workout plan- checkout the link below! You would be able to send me your film and I would provide you with audio/video feedback on your film, then construct a workout plan to emphasize your weak areas of your game! So we get a lot of messages about this topic. “Coach this off season I will be attending my first camp, what can I expect and how can I stand out”. So we figured we would make an article on exactly that! Below is the general format of a college camp usually and then we will talk about how you can stand out in each area of the camp.
1)- Warm up
2)- Combine Work (40, pro shuttle, broad jump & maybe some others)
3)- Position Specific Drills
4)- Skill Players Do Routes vs. Air
5)- WR vs. DB & RB vs. LB 1on1s (also OL vs. DL 1on1s)
6)- Half Line or potentially 7on7
So to stand out in an environment like this, the key areas of emphasis would be the combine work & then the 1on1s/half line periods. At a college camp there will be a lot of people, so if you run a really good 40 or pro shuttle- you immediately stand out. Then in 1on1s coaches are looking for guys who can win reps consistently with realistic routes/coverages/plays. So if you can be that guy consistently and win every rep, you immediately stand out.
Position drills and routes vs. air are important no doubt. But, there are so many people at the camp that it’s mainly going to be “let’s move as fast as possible” from a coaching perspective. Don’t expect to get evaluated in that period too much.
