So there are some things I want to discuss that I would view as a scam for youth football players.
Now, let’s discuss “Exposure camps”. Now I’m not talking about high school exposure camps. I’m talking about exposure camps specifically for youth players. In all honesty, what are you getting exposed to? College coaches? High school coaches? Or is it a way for companies to lie to parents to get a quick sale out of them. I’m just trying to call it like I see it. College coaches are interested in varsity film. Anybody who claims their son has an “offer” before he enters high school is pulling your leg. Real offers do not happen like that. Technically you cannot receive a legit scholarship offer, which means you can commit to the school, until the summer before your JUNIOR year. So an exposure camp isn’t going to help with college recruitment for the youth. So do these camps give you “exposure” to high school coaches? No. Guys I’m here to tell you right now, high school coaches couldn’t care less about “stars” or what your “ranking” is on some website. Any camp that’s saying they will give you a “ranking” isn’t providing you any value. I’ve never in my entire life, and I coached for a little while at a huge football school down here in Southern California, where we recruited athletes & had 10+ guys go to major Power 5 schools every year… we never once even remotely cared about an athletes “ranking”. We cared if he was good and could fit into our system. And that’s how every high school is. So what do you get out of the exposure camps? Is it social media exposure? If so, personally I don’t think you should care about that. If you do, more power to you. In the world of NIL that can be important- but guys let’s be real, the players who make the most money from “NIL” in college are not from endorsements. Yes some make money from endorsements- but the most is from the collectives. AKA really rich dudes who went to the college who pay a ton of money to get top recruits. So to be a top recruit- you need to have the skills. So I would worry less about followers, and more about skills. Less about “exposure” and more about development as a youth player. That’s just my two cents based off of my experience working in this football space for a while. I just want all of you to optimize your time and resources wisely and set yourself up for as much success as possible at the high school level. And I think going to a bunch of “exposure” camps as a youth athlete is a waste of your time and money.
