1)- Get your first hit out of the way early. It’s totally normal to be a little nervous if you’re new to tackle football. But standing around and letting other guys go ahead of you only makes it worse. Try to go first in hitting drills so you can settle into practice faster.
2)- Train contact in the summer to get you ready. You don’t want your first hit ever to be when you’re at practice in front of coaches. I’m not saying get full on tackled, but train with a partner or a family member and have them give you light contact on drills.
3)- Take recovery seriously. You’re going to be a little beat up. That’s apart of the game. I recommend ice baths after practice or a cold shower even can give you some benefit. Also try to get quality sleep & by quality sleep I mean focusing on 2 areas. Eat your last meal 2 hours before bed & don’t have any screen time 1 hour before bed. This helps your nervous system calm down and you will hit a much more deep, restorative sleep to help muscles recover.
