WR TERM DICTIONARY

Grant Caraway

Today we will be discussing WR terminology that you need to know! We make a ton of videos and discuss a lot of things that sometimes people may not know what we mean. So you can use this as a reference to know more about the position and the game. I hope this can help!

Also, in 2024 we are coming out to 9 more cities for QB/WR skill camps! We will be coming to Dallas TX(SOLD OUT) Nashville TN(SOLD OUT) Chicago IL(SOLD OUT) Buffalo NY, Atlanta GA, Houston TX, Philadelphia PA(SOLD OUT), Detroit MI, Boise ID & Los Angeles CA! 1)- Leverage.

When we are talking about leverage, usually we are referring to a DBs leverage. So that means essentially where he is shaded or lined up. If he’s lined up inside of you when you come up to the line, he is inside leverage. If he’s outside, he has outside leverage.

This essentially means he’s not trying to let you run in that direction.

2)- Re-Stack

This is what you’d do or try to do against any type of press man coverage. Let’s say you’re running a 10yd post vs. inside shade press. You’d give a release and then the goal would be to get the DB trailing behind you, aka stacked over the top of him before you make your cut. This is so you can sell an outside fake and get him to bite on it. DBs have us stacked before the snap, but our goal is to reverse that hence the name “re stack”

3)- “Get Skinny”

This is when you have a route and you want to run tight to the DB. Like let’s say you have an out route vs. inside shade press. You’d take an outside release but you don’t want to run away from the DB straight to the sideline, that would cut down the space the QB has to lead you. You’d want to stay tight to the DB and almost lean into him. That’s what getting skinny means. Getting skinny can also help you re stack.

4)- “Blind Spot”

This is an area you want to attack on a DB who plays zone. A corner in zone, will be almost facing the QB and have his back turned to the sideline. Usually he has outside leverage. So that area between his back and sideline is the “blind spot”. Angle your route towards it to widen him, he doesn’t want to let anyone get behind him in zone. Then you can cut back inside and give your QB a bigger window.

5)- “Close the distance/space”

This is when you have a DB who’s let’s say 2-3 yards away from you. Let’s say he’s inside leverage. Let’s say you have to run a fade route. You don’t want to just give a little fake inside then fade. There is too much space, so even if the DB bites on the inside fake- he can still cut off your route because you didn’t close the space with him. Essentially “bring the line of scrimmage to him”. So when you make your move, since you closed space, it will be easier to get skinny or stack him.
