So your diet all depends on your goals as a football player. There are a few things I think all football players should focus on diet wise no matter what your goals are but we will get to that later in this article.

First and foremost if you’re trying to gain weight I would say to always make sure you are in a calorie surplus. Which means consuming more calories than you burn. You can use a calorie tracking tool/product to figure out how many calories you burn daily- and then it’s simple after that. Just look at the ingredient label on the food you eat. Try to consume 20-40% more than what you burn.

Now if you want to lose weight it’s the opposite. It’s called a calorie deficit. Consume less than what you burn by 20-40%.

Now for all football players, no matter what your goals are, you need to stay away from processed foods. Chips, fast food, sugar cereal, and honestly anything that comes in a wrapper. Like a granola bar or something like that. Guys, just logically think about this… If you read the ingredient label of one of those items mentioned above- chances are there will be probably 10-20 ingredients you have never heard of before. AKA artificial ingredients. AKA ingredients that weren’t around 10 years ago. AKA chemicals you shouldn’t put in your body. There is a reason why so many athletes deal with brain fog, low energy, low testosterone etc. Especially at a young age. I’m not an expert on this topic, I can only speak from experience. When I made this change to my diet everything changed. A simple google search on some of the most common ingredients or chemicals you find in these foods will tell you all you need to know. These big food companies put so many things in our “food” that it is ruining children/athletes across the country. My best piece of advice to you would be to eat NATURAL foods. I’m a religious guy, so I relate it to God. But I say “if God made it, I’ll eat it”. I’m not eating anything man made aka processed. Essentially, eat things that are SINGLE ingredient foods. Eggs. Chicken. Rice. Potatoes. Now the reason I’m going on this tirade is because you need energy as an athlete. And the food you eat is a direct source of energy. Putting natural food in your body is like putting real high quality gas in a sports car. If you put cheap gas in a sports car, it’s not going to run as well. Treat your body the same way.
