This time of year it’s really important that athletes take care of their body. Recovery is essential so you can practice hard, lift & train while still feeling great for a game. There are 3 things I recommend for recovery.

1)- Proper sleep. 8-10 hours of sleep is great but you want to be hitting the deepest possible sleep. Which is called REM- I’m not a sleep expert but the two things that have helped me sleep better and recover faster is not eating anything 2 hours before bed & not having any screen time (phone, TV, IPad) at least 1 hour before bed.

2)- Ice bath. After a hard day at practice if your school has an ice bath, take one. This helps a lot with inflammation and can help swelling from hits go down. If you don’t have access to this- take a really cold shower. It’s not as great, but can still be very beneficial.

3)- Massage gun/foam roller/lacrosse ball. Roll out your muscles on one of these or use a massage gun to work out any soreness in your muscles. After you do this I recommend also stretching for 20-30 minutes. This is something I would do as a player religiously every night.
