Below we will be discussing 3 ways you can stand out at summer football practice. I hope this is able to help you!

We get this question a lot and these are my best 3 pieces of advice for you guys in summer camp.

1)- Don’t just get through conditioning… compete in conditioning. If you are in a position battle, a great way to show that you can be a guy the team can rely on is by finishing first in conditioning drills. You’d be surprised how many guys just cruise through conditioning and just want to get through it. You should take it personally and try to win every sprint and distance run that they have you do. This can show to your coaches that you are about the work & that the team can trust you to do the little things right.

2)- Be first to every drill or practice period. Usually how practices run is that a coach blows a whistle and the team switches from period to period. Positional drills to routes vs air. Routes vs. air to 1on1s etc. So to each period you should take the first reps. That can help coaches see you with the first team and see how you’d fit in with the first team. And if you’re constantly first in every single period- coaches will begin to notice you. So when you hear that whistle blow or you’re going to another period of practice, you better be sprinting to be first.

3)- Play special teams. This is advice for everyone who doesn’t play QB or O-Line. A lot of players can stand out, especially you underclassman, by just the willingness to play special teams. Usually at practices coaches will say “hey I need a gunner on punt” and then they expect a guy to run out there. BE THAT GUY. That shows you are willing to play, wiling to compete and willing to do the things a lot of other guys don’t want to. Which will impress any coach. This can have the coaching staff trust you with a bigger role on offense or defense.
